Description du film :
A boy, whose mother is a prostitute, is sent away by her to a school for Peking Opera. The school initially, doesn’t want the boy as he was born with 6 fingers on one hand. The mother solves that problem by chopping that sixth finger off with a hatchett. It’s a very hard school and the boys had to work together to get through all of the punishments. The boy finds a boyfriend in one of the other students. They stay together and become very famous actors in the Peking opera.Garçons acteurs

Dieser Film ist ein schönes Beispiel dafür, wie ein falsch programmiertes Untertitelprogramm für Verwirrung sorgen kann. Beinahe alle Webseiten, die den Film erwähnen, nennen ihn »Lebewohl, meine Konkubine«. Richtig interpretiert, hieße dann die Konkubine Lebewohl. Gemeint ist aber wohl eher der Abschied, also »Lebe wohl, meine Konkubine«. Das ist meiner Meinung nach auch die richtige deutsche Schreibweise für diesen Filmtitel.
Der Filmtitel bezieht sich auf eine Szene aus der Oper, in der der König seine Konkubine in die Freiheit entlassen will und sich von ihr mit den Worten »Lebe wohl, meine Konkubine!« verabschiedet. Daraufhin nimmt sich die Konkubine das Leben, weil sie ohne den König nicht leben kann.
